The Best Way to Clean a DVD Player

We use a DVD for several applications. We can watch a movie in it or play your favorite video games. The DVDs may not function well if it becomes dirty. It has a tendency to skip when it becomes too dirty. It will also have a hard time reading the information properly. The dirt becomes a hindrance for reading the data. Cleaning the DVD is not so hard as long as you follow the right steps accordingly. This is moderately difficult task. The things you will need are duster, cleaning disc, alcohol, q-tips, screw driver and three in one oil.

1. The first step on how to clean a DVD is unplugging it properly. You should make sure that it's completely connected. You should then put it in another place where you would get a lot of room for cleaning it.

2. The second step on how to clean a DVD is examining the player. Check the vents and the fans. You must check if there is a thick build up of the dirt or grime. If the area with the vents already has a big accumulation then it means that you have not cleaned it for a very long time. It would not help if you use the duster on it because it will just get blown back to the player. If the accumulated dust is just light then you should start cleaning it by just blowing on it. There are some DVD players that let you open it up so you can blow on it easily.

3. The third step on how to clean a DVD is putting the disc for cleaning it. You can just watch as it does its job. For a large accumulation of dust or dirt it may not play properly. However if the disc for cleaning finished until the end then you can end your cleaning process

4. The fourth step on how to clean a DVD is disassembling the DVD. This will enable you to clean and remove the large build up of dirt properly. You should start this by looking for the player's seams, security tape and screws. Be careful of the tape because if that breaks then you will not be able to avail your warranty in case it breaks down. You can risk this and open the player. You do this by first removing the screws which you will find on the player's bottom. You should just be taking the casing out then remove the dust accumulation on the vents first by using your duster. Be careful not to shake it because the nitrogen might leak out and damage the player.

5. The fifth step on how to clean a DVD is putting alcohol on your q-tips. Then swipe it on the part with the laser. You can then rub it on the rails if you find any dust on it. Do not swipe the alcohol on the circuits.

6. The sixth step on how to clean a DVD is letting it dry properly. You start by dipping a q-tip with the oil and brushing it on the rails. Then after a few minutes of drying you can close it now and then play the disc for cleaning the player. Then if it plays all the way to the end then you have successfully cleaned your DVD.

Get the Best Out of Driving Simulator Training

Driving simulation is today's latest means of learning how to drive. It is the complete opposite of the traditional driving training approach. It can offer a lot of benefits but unfortunately, many fail to get a hand and enjoy all of those.

Basically, driving simulator training is a driving training that uses a machine. It provides a training environment by imitating real-road scenarios and accepting commands from the trainee. The commands are relayed to the machine via devices, fashioned as car parts, connected to the machine. Examples of those parts are steering wheel and pedals.

Although a driving simulator is best known for training purposes, it also has uses to other fields. As you might already know, it was first used for entertainment specifically on car racing games. First look, you might say that all it offers is enjoyment. However, deeper view of it will reveal that it can help you develop your judgment and reflexes which are needed to be an effective driver.

Apart from using it for entertainment, it is also used in research and even product development. With it, the behaviors and habits of drivers can be studied. That specifically helps in developing driving products just as airbags. It can even help those with authority in regulating rules for road safety.

When used for training, a driving simulator can provide a safe, fast and effective way of learning how to drive. In addition, it can offer you a wide range of right driving knowledge no matter what type of vehicle it is that you want to learn. As has been said though, many still can't get the full of what driving simulation can offer. Here are two general tips that will help you experience every good thing that driving simulation training can give.

  • Pick well the school to enroll - There are now a lot of driving schools offering driving simulator training. Make a comparison of their rate and features to determine which is the best to enroll. Checking their backgrounds and other trainees reviews can help you with that.
  • Be prepared for the training - This refers to preparing not only your money but your mind as well. The said modern training can be very effective but only with your help. Open yourself to the things that you will learn. Be perceptive and keen while in training so you can absorb the knowledge that the training is giving you.

There are several good things that training with a driving simulator can bring. However, you should pick well your school and be prepared for the training to experience all those good things.

iTunes

If you care about the sound quality or transferability of you music archive, you'll want to investigate the various import options. These allow you to weigh up the size of the imported music files against the fidelity of the sound and the degree to which they'll be compatible with software and hardware other than iTunes and the iPod. This article focuses on importing from CD, but the advice applies equally to files you've downloaded or created yourself.

Importing Options

To access the iTunes' Importing options, open Preferences (from the iTunes menu on Mac; from the Edit menu on PC) and click on the Importing tab at the top. The two most important options are those in drop downs. They allow you to choose which file format/compression type to use, and the bitrate. If you're not sure what a file or bitrate is, read on.

Which Format

iTunes currently offers five file-format import options: AAC, MP3, AIFF, Apple Lossless and WAV. If any of these don't appear in your list of options, you're probably running an old version of iTunes. Download and install the latest version.

In brief, AAC is best for day to day iPod and computer use; MP3 is slightly worse at the bitrate, but can be played on any digital music player or computer (and burned onto MP3 CD); Apple Lossless is for fidelity fanatics; and AIFF and WAV are only really for importing tracks with the aim of burning CDs.

Note that all file formats can be burned to audio CDs and played back in normal hi-fis - it's only when sharing actual music files with non-iTunes or non-iPod equipment that compatibility becomes an issue.

Which Bitrate?

The bitrate is the amount of data that each second of sound is reduced to. The higher the bitrate, the higher the sound quality, but also the more disk space the track takes up. The relationship between file size and bitrate is basically proportional, but the same isn't true of sound quality, so a 128 Kbps track takes half as much space as the same track recorded at 256 Kbps, but the sound will be only very marginally different. Still, marginal differences are what being a hi-fi obsessive is all about.

The default import setting in recent versions of iTunes, listed as "high quality", is AAC at 128 Kbps. Most people will be perfectly satisfied with this combination (which is usually said to be roughly equivalent to MP3 at 160 Kbps), but if you're into your sound in a serious way it may not be quite good enough. Particularly if you listen to high-fidelity recordings of acoustic instruments, such as well recorded classical music, and if you connect your iPod or computer to a decent home stereo, you may find AAC 128 Kbps leads to a distinct lack of presence and brightness in your favourite recordings. If so, either opt for the Apple Lossless Encoder or stick with AAC and up the bitrate. The best thing to do is to run a comparative experiment with a suitably well-recorded track.

Hard Drive Functionality

Consumers often ask why it is that DVD recorders with hard drive functionality tend not to have twin digital tuners, a feature that would allow them to watch one digital channel and record a different one. The reason for the omission of this useful option is explained in this two-part series.

The explanation for the lack of twin digital tuners in DVD recorders with hard drive capability is more complex than you might imagine. To begin with, you need to accept that in these machines, anything recorded to the hard disk has to be good enough for recording onto a DVD disk in a fraction of the time it takes to watch the programme.

So why is this?

This is because consumers are used to CD recorders and DVD recorders that can record much faster than the playback time, and a DVD recorder that could not do this would be labelled as "slow" and would probably not be commercially viable because of this.

So what has the DVD recording speed to do with dual tuner functionality?

Well, this is where things get complicated. I've explained that consumers need DVDs to be recorded faster than "live" playback time. To achieve this, any recordings on the hard disks of DVD recorders with hard drives; i.e. any recording that a consumer may choose to record to DVD disk at any moment; has to be already in DVD quality and format. The problem is that some of the Freeview channels don't broadcast in good enough quality for DVD disks.

This means that these Freeview signals need to be converted to DVD quality as they are written to the hard disk of the machine, just in case a you choose to record the programme to a DVD disk later. The conversion process takes as long as watching the programme. Because it is done in the background as the programme is broadcast, you don't notice any delay. After the programme has ended, you have it in DVD quality on the HDD hard disk, which means it is ready for recording to DVD later at the expected faster-than-live speed.

So now we have explained the reason that any recording to the hard disk has to be converted into DVD quality. In part two of this series we will discover why this conversion process is the reason that almost all DVD recorders with hard drive functionality don't have twin digital tuners

Popular Video Formats

Here we take a look at some of the more popular video file formats currently in use today:

AVI - This video format often uses the DivX encoding in order to achieve a high level of compression resulting in a lower file size which, when run at a high enough bitrate, can be viewed without any significant artifacts. While popular through most of the early 2000's, this format has recently been lost in popularity due to the introduction of other high quality video formats. Although the format is not widely used anymore, it is still playable by many DVD players, game system, and almost every video software.

MPEG2 - This video format is still widely used today and is one of the first high quality video formats. Though the compression on the format is not as high as the AVI format and the files cannot be played in as wide a selection of video devices or software as an unprocessed file, it enjoys its popularity because it is the format used for DVD video and in digital broadcasts. However, straight MPEG2 files can only be played on a handful of devices including computers, some smart phones, and some handhelds.

H.264 - This video format has recently made large strides towards becoming a popular video format because of it's compression and image quality. It is also one of the few formats that can support HD content. However, because of it's compression algorithm, playing an H.264 file often requires significant computational power, leaving the format out of reach of all non-computer devices. This format can not natively be played by any video software, but is the video encoding used for Blu-Rays.

MPEG4 - This video format is not as widely popular as the H.264 video encoding, but follows the exact same standard as the H.264 because they are maintained together. Due to this, there is no real technical difference between the formats.

.MOV - This format is the primary format of the Quicktime video players and, although popular in the 90s, is hardly ever used now in favor of other formats. Some video software may play these, but most hardware and software programs will not.

PC Repair

For many people, the computer has become the most important tool for both business and pleasure. When it comes to PC repair, choosing someone who is not only qualified to do the job, but do it well is vital to continuing to be able to use your computer effectively. Most people understand that having computer problems is a big headache. It's always difficult to not know what to do or how to do it in such a complex piece of machinery, and it may be hard to know who is well qualified to handle your computer. Many have made the mistake of finding a repair person who did more harm than good in the long run and there are a number of ways to ensure that you're getting the best PC repair technician out there.

A reputable PC repair technician is important, because not all people who make claims to being able to repair computers can do so in the best possible way. Not everyone who hangs his or her shingle for computer repair will do the very best job, so it is always important to read through reviews, first. If you have friends who use someone, generally their recommendations can help a great deal and they can point you in the right direction to finding someone who will do the best job for your money. Local newspapers and yellow pages are often good places to start if you don't have recommendations, but once you have found a few, there are key things to look for. A quick researching via the local business bureau can save you a great deal of hassle and money, here. As well, you can also ask the technician about their credentials and what qualifies them. Usually, understanding how long a technician has been in business will help a great deal.

Anywhere from three to six years on the job, is definitely preferred. If that doesn't feel right to you, asking about client referrals or looking for testimonials can also be a big indicator of if the PC repair person you are looking into is legitimate. Asking how much a repair will cost is also one of the ways you can find out about the way that the person does business. Current market rates are usually available to compare and a good pc repair person will always explain the various costs and help you to understand what it is they will be doing. Sometimes, a visit to the place of business can be reassuring as well as helping to confirm that this person actually has been working with computers for some time. Most reputable computer repairmen and women have their own shop or storefront from where they do business.

Doing a little bit of legwork when choosing a PC repair person will enable you to protect yourself and help you to get your computer back up and running as soon as possible. So, have a look around, and you will find the right technician for your needs.

Virus Definitions

When it comes to understanding viruses and how they work one must understand the code that is used to power these nasty little programs. Virus definitions are used by anti-virus programs to identify specific viruses or any program that is used to invade a PC. These are also known as virus signatures.

These codes are unique in pattern and each one may perform differently. These programs are designed with one objective in mind and that is to create havoc on a PC. They will slow down your PC and they perform certain tasks such as delete data that may be vital to the stability of your PC. They may record things on your PC in order to acquire information about browsing habits or personal information and most of the time they will purposefully corrupt data and this leads to undesirable computer behavior or no computer at all leaving you strand and invaded. Viruses can spread themselves from on computer to another leaving a trail of destructive and damaging results.

Most simple viruses will use unaware user to do their dirty work. When a user is unaware of the symptoms this makes spreading the virus very easy and may infect friends and family computers as well. Advanced Viruses, many times referred to as worms can spread like wildfire sending themselves into a reign of chaos by using other software programs to achieve their path of destruction. Many times they will spread by means of e-mail or file sharing.

Some programs such as trojan horses are deceiving in appearance and may fool the user into thinking it is good and thus getting its way and being accepted into the users PC. Some trojan horses can perform tasks that may appear to be helpful to the user but in the background they are performing the dirty deeds they were really meant to perform.

It is good to be well aware of these dirty little programs and how each one works but the truth is you probably would not understand the details of the code. This is why it is important to have anti-virus programs that can read these viruses and kill them dead in their tracks. some viruses are quarantined some are simply deleted and then there are the ones that keep getting away with their dirty works. Find a anti-virus program that suits your needs and leave the work to the pros

App Store Developing

1) Decide on Risk. Once you have a great idea, you have two options. One is risk-free, and one is high-risk.

NO RISK: The risk-free option is to give your idea to a developing company, and get a small percentage of the final profit (after expenses) if they decide to develop it. Note, however, that by submitting your idea to such a company, you forgo your intellectual property rights to that idea. To do this, there are several options right in the app store.

HIGH RISK: The high-risk option is to develop the app yourself (or pay someone to do it for you). If you take this route, you owe it to yourself to do some market research before developing your app---to see if it's actually a good idea, and to find out if anyone would actually want to buy it. There aren't a lot of ways to do this, but there are some apps in the app store that allow you to get feedback (market research) on your idea without giving up your rights to develop it. Naturally, this is how the best apps have made fortunes.

Since the second option is what takes all the work, it is the focus of the rest of this article.

2) Envision Your App. Imagine what it will look like, how it will perform, what the screens will display, what options will be incorporated, and how the graphics will be designed. Take a week to think about it. Write things down. Keep a notepad beside your bed. Scribble, draw, imagine, brainstorm... do whatever it takes until you can practically run the app from inside your head.

3) Find a Developer. (If you know how to program the app yourself, skip this step.) You have two options: corporate or freelance. You can easily find both with a few Google searches.

CORPORATE: Corporate developers are big companies with teams of programmers. They take care of everything, and they do a great job---graphics, testing, programming, and deployment---all taken care of, no worries. The catch is that they'll run you up a bill between $20,000 and $100,000 depending what you ask for. (Wait, don't freak out! There's another option.)

FREELANCE: Individual developers also offer developing services. Many of them are based in India, and their rates are very reasonable (often about $12/hr). You can typically have an app programmed for under $1,000 (unless it's a game or otherwise graphics-intensive, which is much harder to program). The catch here is that you have to stay on top of things. You will be responsible for quality-control, negotiating what your freelancer will do for you, etc. Plus, the quality you get from a freelancer probably won't be as great as with a corporation---for example, it might not look as nice, or it might have some bugs that you need your developer to fix. Expect between 1 and 3 months for programming.

4) Get it in the Store. This part will cost another $99. You'll need to first sign up for a developer account with Apple. After that, it's pretty easy. Your developer should be able to upload the binary app file to the store. You write a description, decide on the price (which you can change at any time), select a payment method (e.g. direct deposit from Apple), and agree to a bunch of Apple's legal stuff. Apple usually takes less than a month to approve the app once it's submitted, and then you're live in the fabled App Store. Note, however, that Apple sometimes rejects apps, and will ask you to change certain things (e.g. a feature in violation of the App Store's Terms of Use). In that case, you'll have to alter your app and resubmit. So don't pay your developer in full until your app is live in the store!

5) Market, Promote, and Sell. This step can be the hardest (unless your app become one of Apple's hand-picked "Featured"). There are a lot of things you can do to publicize your app. First, get the direct link to your app in the store (e.g. itunes.com/apps/appideapro), which you can find by searching for your app in iTunes. Then submit your app to blogs, reviewers, and news companies. Write about your app, publish press releases, get a website, and submit the website to search engines. You can also get a marketing agency for iPhone apps---easily found on Google. The trick is to distinguish yourself, find a niche, create a unique message, set yourself apart, and get your message to iPhone and iPod touch users around the world.
